Martial Arts Myths: Ninjutsu, part 4

This is part 4. I finally get to talking about some of the people who clam to be Ninja masters. I’m sure you guys can guess that this is going to be the part that will off some people the most.

you can find part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMqtekE0A8s

you can find part 2 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMNCd13AqYE

You can find part 3 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GxLDExptPk

Finally, at long last, I’m able to put this up. And it’s a doozy people… 40 minutes of me flapping my gums about Ninjutsu, and all the BS in it. And trust me, there’s a whole lot of it. That’s why it took me 40 minutes.

Of course, they’re all broken up into 4 parts. You can set aside some time for yourself, and watch all 4 at once, or you can just take your time and watch each part at your leisure. I’m not picky.

I’m pretty sure that because of these videos, all types of ninja wannabe kooks are gonna-come-a-knocking, all posting about how much I don’t know, or how they’re going to beat me up, or whatever. Please. No amount of grandstanding, fact dodging, or name calling will change things. The fact is, this information is out there for anyone to look up. And a lot of it doesn’t look good for you guys (fanatical wannabe Ninjas). You can act like idiots about it, or you can just accept things and move on. Of course, if there is something I’m genuinely wrong about, please let me know. Of course, I will look it up to make sure it’s correct, so no trying to BS me please… it’ll just be a waste of time.

Oh, and just to get this out of the way: I’m not saying there aren’t some legitimate Ninjutsu schools out there, nor are there not credible teachers. I’m well aware of the Bujinkan, and I’m sure the people associated with it can fight well. But amidst this one jewel, there’s a whole sea of mud. And the few jewels there aren’t as bright as you might think.

Anyways, enjoy guys. I certainly hope you guys DO enjoy it, after all the crap I had to go through just to get it done.

Oh, by the way… I have to thank the Bullshido.com website and forums for all their great work and information, without which this wouldn’t have been done. I did know a lot of this stuff already, but since I lost most of my old martial arts library, I’d have to do this from memory, and that’s an easy way to mess facts up. Bullshido.com had a lot of the info I needed in one place. Thanks guys.

Oh, in case you guys want to look this stuff up yourself:

The case against Frank Dux:

Japanese Jujutsu and Shiatsu / Massage and Martial Arts

Footage from our March 21, 2009 class. Saturday classes typically involve four-plus hours of jujutsu (lots of ukemi) followed by shiatsu, since we learn and practice both disciplines. As a result, we can (usually ;-) fix what gets tweaked on the mat, which is a nice perk.

For those familiar with Hakkoryu / Hakko Denshin Ryu / KoKoDo Jujutsu, the following tachi-waza from shodan-ge are featured in the video: Hakko-Nage (a couple interpretations considered to be kihon), Kubi-Shime-Dori and Ushiro-Zeme-Otoshi (mostly henka from a rear arm choke).

Unlike most of our videos to date, the techniques shown in this video are kihon waza (the formal pre-arranged techniques that make up the system’s syllabus) or pre-determined vs. on-the-fly variations (henka) of the waza.

As with much of the other material we’ve posted and will post to YouTube, this video depicts students achieving training goals with varying degrees of success, vs. simply serving as a “best-of” highlight reel for our school. Our goals in doing so are to properly represent the realities of training in self-defense-oriented martial arts, and help you form reasonable expectations should you one day choose to train with us. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share our passion for jujutsu with you!

What’s the difference between the different types of martial arts?

I don’t know them all but I’m interested to know what each entails.
I mean specific forms and what they each involve.
Big ones. Ones I could find a class to learn should I decide to do so.
Jeez can’t you answer a simple question? If someone asked what kinds of plants there are in the world I could say there are pines, there are flowers, there are trees and describe some main characteristics of all. That’s all I’m asking! I guess I’ll have to find somewhere else to get my answers as this is useless.

they emphasize different things some are grappling arts other are striking some are internal others are external

edit: is there a specific style or styles your interested in? because there are so many martial arts out there it would be impossible to list common and differences between them all

Is It Possible to Learn Karate On My Own?

I am a college student and would like to learn it for self-defense purposes. I bought a book about karate techniques, and it’s pretty informative. But would having an actual karate teacher be better or necessary? I can’t seem to find a good teacher where I live, so that’s why I’m not that willing to learn from a master.

Books can take as you as far as it can go. In reality, whether it’s Karate or Thai Boxing, you need hands-on to see what it ‘feels’ like when the pulse is racing and your tunnel vision turns on.

It’s like learning to swim. Can you read about how to swim and never touch the pool? Of course you can. But when your boat sinks and it’s time to put your swimming skills to the test, will you float?

Good luck in your search.

whats better to do for exercise mixed martial arts or football?

Either one.

The drills you will do for both sports are grueling, football players get a massive phisique, yet they also have to be fast and explosive.

Mixed martial artists have to train very hard too, strenght, cardio, flexibility, punishment, it’s also grueling.

What are some exercises I could do at home to discipline myself physically – kind of pilates x martial arts?

I can’t get to any kind of lesson but really want to discipline myself physically. So, I’m looking for some kind of series of exercises I can do, just at home by myself, to get stronger (!!) and like… faster. Improve balance, co-ordination, flexibility, reflexes… like a mixture between pilates or yoga and martial arts… training and working muscles through stretching and that. Something I can make a routine with. Not weights or anything though ;-)

Actually (might be asking a bit much) but a website detailing how to do some exercises like this would be absolutely brilliant.

Very good start! I advice you to go check this free yoga e-course:

All the best

What do you think about martial arts teaching women to kick each other?

in the cl*t. I over heard two conversations about this technique. Does it work. What does it feel like to get kicked directly in the cl*toris.

It feels like getting kicked in the balls im assuming
