Martial Arts Myths: Ninjutsu, part 2
Part one is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMqtekE0A8s
This is part two where some of the supposed weapons and skills are discussed.
Part 3 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GxLDExptPk
Finally, at long last, I’m able to put this up. And it’s a doozy people… 40 minutes of me flapping my gums about Ninjutsu, and all the BS in it. And trust me, there’s a whole lot of it. That’s why it took me 40 minutes.
Of course, they’re all broken up into 4 parts. You can set aside some time for yourself, and watch all 4 at once, or you can just take your time and watch each part at your leisure. I’m not picky.
I’m pretty sure that because of these videos, all types of ninja wannabe kooks are gonna-come-a-knocking, all posting about how much I don’t know, or how they’re going to beat me up, or whatever. Please. No amount of grandstanding, fact dodging, or name calling will change things. The fact is, this information is out there for anyone to look up. And a lot of it doesn’t look good for you guys (fanatical wannabe Ninjas). You can act like idiots about it, or you can just accept things and move on. Of course, if there is something I’m genuinely wrong about, please let me know. Of course, I will look it up to make sure it’s correct, so no trying to BS me please… it’ll just be a waste of time.
Oh, and just to get this out of the way: I’m not saying there aren’t some legitimate Ninjutsu schools out there, nor are there not credible teachers. I’m well aware of the Bujinkan, and I’m sure the people associated with it can fight well. But amidst this one jewel, there’s a whole sea of mud. And the few jewels there aren’t as bright as you might think.
Anyways, enjoy guys. I certainly hope you guys DO enjoy it, after all the crap I had to go through just to get it done.
Oh, by the way… I have to thank the Bullshido.com website and forums for all their great work and information, without which this wouldn’t have been done. I did know a lot of this stuff already, but since I lost most of my old martial arts library, I’d have to do this from memory, and that’s an easy way to mess facts up. Bullshido.com had a lot of the info I needed in one place. Thanks guys.
Edit: oh I just remembered… the sword I was talking about, the one commissioned by the Bujinkan, is here: http://www.chenessinc.com/9260oniyuri.htm

Do you believe that …
Do you believe that Dr Matsuhaki guy or whatever his name is , is real or fake? As far as swords he said ninja would have a sword more like a Wakasashi but with a longer handle so as to trick people into thinking the blade was longer and would take longer to draw, and would sheath it in a katana length scabbard.

Lol reminds me of …
Lol reminds me of the choson “ninja sword” that was apparantly “passed down from generation to generation”.
It may be the modern era but we’re not passed the age of myth and superstition. there are people trainning to be priests who battle demons in “spiritual warfare” and people who believe the Queen of England is a reptilian space alien. It’s not surprising there are people who believe training in kuji jin or whatever it is will give them ninja powers.

i would say some …
i would say some styles are better than others though… but I’m a traditional fighter a fan of killing arts… not the sports arts so i think that natural for me to feel that way…

ikr ninjas used wat …
ninja’s were usually farmers >_> who wanted to end the samurai era because farmers were the poor and samurai was way more comfortable and walked over the poor >_> they were basically japanese robin hood and gave mercenary money back to the village…
ikr ninjas used wat ever weapons that were near them

I never sai …
I never sai ninjutsu was an art, I merely stated that these people had an unorthodox style that made them dangerous. again, like the comparrison between Europeans vs. Native Americans. The Europeans had fought a certain way for centuries and then they faced an enemy that didn’t do things that way and that made them dangerous. In other words, the shinobi were unchivalrous.

so if your going to …
so if your going to include the historical definition then why are you going to exclude the same for ninjutsu?
you do realize that it was never a martial art.
now pay attention, i am not saying that shinobi didnt fight, but that those skills are in no way included in ninjutsu, THATS why the koryu societies werent interested in what hatsumi has been taught… its clearly just been tagged with the name of ninjutsu.
:sustainedreaction. yuku. com /topic/5540 worth a read. plausible.

Bushido didn’t …
Bushido didn’t exist in the 16th century, it was a product of the 18th century when the bushi had become virtually obsolete and wanted some reason for their position in society.
Second, the Japanese are notoriously anal about how they do things and this is what made them such an easy win during the first Mongol invasion. The Japanese believed in introductions and individual combat, whilst the Mongols just attacked en masse.

“the shinobi …
“the shinobi weren’t ultimate fighters, they were just unfair fighters. In feudal Japan the samurai had a set way of doing things in combat and the shinobi didn’t play by those rules”
alright lets start with a basic here, the shinobi, was just as much a samurai as his opponent. your understanding of bushido as rules is a little off.
if you didnt hear the guy behind you, that was your honor lost, not his, you should have been more careful.

The Ninja museum in …
The Ninja museum in Japan is nonsense, Japanese people are not realy interested in the Ninja and they won’t be offended if you insult the Bujikan…..it will offend American and Koreans though;).

Yup. Stephen K. Hayes did make it up.

Well, I’m sorry you …
Well, I’m sorry you took it that way however, 1.) I feel no group can be considered superior fighters (just superior training, tactics and equipment), in the end it’s not whether a Spartan or Legionaire is superior but which man. It’s about the individual, not where the individual is from. 2.) Check history, when the native Americans had the same weapons (rifles) and horses they still lost.
It was an analogy to show that samurai and “ninja” had the same stuff just one didn’t play by the rules.
Mkolembemble
you make it sound …
you make it sound as if ‘ europeans’ were in any way superior fighters to native Americans. The opposite was true,if they are armed equally.
so the cf. is wrong..for the ninjutsu & samurai had access to same technology

As far as the kite …
As far as the kite thing goes. Even historians and modern day practicionerss say it’s unlikely shinobi ever did this; However, there is a story(not sure if it is true) of a thief using a kite in a failed attempt at stealing a gold fish from Edo castle. From what I understand even historians are unsure if it is true but there is a story and some evidence of people at least attempting to fly on kites.

Nice vid and yes, …
Nice vid and yes, the shinobi weren’t ultimate fighters, they were just unfair fighters. In feudal Japan the samurai had a set way of doing things in combat and the shinobi didn’t play by those rules. This basically gave shinobi a brief advantage in a fight but, mostly they just chose to escape instead. It was basically like the Europeans and Native Americans. “Oh shit, wait! You didn’t line up in rows like us.. you cheating bastards!!” It was just something that gave them an edge in combat.

According to Scottbaioisdead, shinobi no mono were actually samurai but with espionage techniques.

sounds reasonable, the book was a little cheesy. It’s probably for kids.
He has two pages of sources… only a few are worth noting.
superfoot ROFL sounds like a bill wallace (name?) rip off.

his name is JoeL which made it a little harder to track him down. anyways… i looked him up… he has a blackbelt in some bogus “superfoot” style and calls himself Grandmaster of 2 karate spinoffs he made up….
he doesnt have any japanese education, martial arts experience, and never claims to have been there….
if you could cite the sources he used for the book i would appreciate it…
but i think he is pretty well debunked credibility wise already….

Page 157 paragraph …
Page 157 paragraph 2 of Ninja the Shadow Warrior by Joe Levy:
“There may have been as many as four Hattori Hanzos who led the clan at one time or another, and this one was distinguished by his personal name Masanari (AKA Masahige) and later by his nickname Oni no Hanzo, or Devil Hanzo.”
Yes, ashida is an idiot. Some things in his books are useful. Strategies, hiding, escaping, ambush, and sentry removal from Secrets of the Ninja are good. I disagree with pretty much the rest of the book though.
