Martial Arts Workout

According to the popular Mixed Martial Arts site Bloody Elbow, today’s top female mixed martial arts fighter and current Strikeforce women’s middleweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos is in advanced negotiations with the WWE after attending one of the company’s Florida events with her husband Evangelista Santos (who is also a mixed martial artist).

Santos is one of the top MMA stars in the world outside of the UFC. She was one of the first women to headline a major MMA event in August of 2009 when she faced Gina Carano. Her brutal first round stoppage win that night was is one of 10 wins in a row for her (eight via a form of knockout) since losing her professional debut.

The woman simply known as “Cyborg,” combines speed, technique, power and overall athleticism into a fan-friendly, violent fighting style.

Her reputation, muscular physique and intimidating staredown makes her a very marketable fighter and would transition her well into the wrestling business. She is already very athletic and has plenty of grappling experience as well.

She may just have to lighten up on her strikes a little. If done right though, her leg kicks and knees might become legitimate finishing moves for her in wrestling as well, based on her muay thai background.

What does this mean for fans of the WWE? Well, with the acquisition of former TNA star Awesome Kong, the temporary return of Trish Stratus and these reports, you get the sense that the WWE is starting to take the diva’s division a little more seriously again.

With talented performers like Michelle McCool, Gail Kim, Natalya, etc., rising stars like Kelly Kelly, the debut of Awesome Kong looming, the occasional appearance by Trish possible and interest of a major celebrity/athlete like “Cyborg” Santos, the diva’s division is starting to become interesting again.

Hopefully, once the WWE is done with the ladies, they will get to work on the tag teams
