Can I do martial arts and can I get tips on how to get started?

I really, really want to be martial artist. Ever since I was a kid, actually. But, to be one, I noticed, that you need connections. And I really don’t have any. And the other thing is that I’m a girl. Is a girl’s body physically fit to handle the stress of doing all those martial arts moves? I haven’t many women martial artists (except for on movies and such; but that doesn’t count). Don’t worry, I won’t get offended. Just tell me facts. Personally, I believe, that a woman is rather physically weak when compared to men, but I believe their agility does make up for it; so, just tell me facts I need to know to get started.
Just tips and sources where I can self-teach myself; casue I don’t have any teachers or money to afford one. For once, I want to be able to do something I want to; and overcome my procrastination.
Thanks. I would really appreciate it.
I know I should do research. And I just tried to, but you can’t really find what you’re looking for. I don’t have time or the money to go to a dojo/ classes; I mean, I would like to have classes with only women and is taught by a woman. Impossible to find.

Women can do the same things as men Martial Arts included.
I am a practitioner of historical swordfighting and in my 13 years doing it I have found that women pay more attention to detail than men do. In fact my first instructor was a 5′2" tall woman

By the way u don’t need connections. u can get books on the subjects and then all u need is a study partner. But remember,
be true to the art and do ur research to make sure that the things that u are studing and practicing are true to the art.

It would be better to enter a dojo of some type when possible

If u would like to ask more detailed questions email me

Dedication is what really grants you all-access to martial arts. Sometimes you need connections, but if you show the master your committment to learning and that this isn’t some fleeting interest, then they will take you in. That has been my experience.

there is no problem with women and martial arts, in fact there are many forms of martial arts from those that require a fit strong and flexible body to those that can be practiced by 70 year olds, the key is to find what fits you best. Do some research on line about the different types out there. Of course, being a female you would have a physical disadvantage against an equal rank man, but the know a martial art in the first place gives you a great advantage over even very strong men that have no fighting technique (i.e. someone who might attack/rob/rape you) Do some research and find what fits you then go for it. Remember though, that some martial arts are great for sport and and show while others are better for practical self defense.

Honey, you can do whatever you put your mind to. You definitely don’t need any connections. Your not gonna learn those hard on your body techniques until you learn the easiest things like a simple punch or kick.
I am a 28yo, overweight, single mom. I started taking Karate classes w/ my 6yo son about 3 months ago. I just recently moved up a rank to yellow belt and already test for my orange belt. It is very rewarding and there are plenty of women in my class. They are loving it too. It can be expensive, our instructor encouraged me to stay on by offering scholarships and payment plans. Also check your local ymca and adult education programs. I even know of a church in my area that offers karate classes for free.

There are many different forms of Karate also. Go to the library or online and do some research and find out what interests you most. Or just check out your local karate studios and ask about their discipline and philosophy.

You can do it. Stop procrastinating and be the strong woman you want to be.

Sure. you can do martial arts. Girls are more flexible than boys. You probably can learn to do the moves quicker than the boys but you won’t have much force to exert more impact on your kicks or your bunches. If physical moves are too much for you, you can learn some weapons techniques. Personnally, I like knifefighting and stickfighting more. These techniques can be readily converted to any street situations.
